How India’s Tech Powerhouses can realise Atmanirbhar Bharat during COVID-19

There is a famous saying in India “Every adversity brings with a great opportunity.” India as a country has witnessed many problems over the years, but without a doubt, the greatest crisis of our times is the COVID-19 pandemic. This health crisis has shaken the very foundations of the established world order and forced the countries to introspect regarding their preparedness for such adversities in the future. But like every other crisis, COVID-19 has also created numerous opportunities which must be taken advantage of. One of them being the realisation to become self-reliant or “Atmanirbhar” for fulfilling our requirements.

Atmanirbhar Bharat: The need of the hour

When the Prime Minister Mr Modi announced the Atmanirbhar Bharat package of Rs. 21 lakh crores, it announced a watershed movement in India’s history. Finally, the government of India realised that our country could not depend solely on imported solutions for our problems. While this initiative does not intend to stop trade with other countries, it does want the people of the country to becoming “Vocal for Local.” It is finally time to take the reins in our hands and start the journey towards self-reliance. After all, the strongest countries in the world are those who have the capability of taking care of their people.

Atmanirbhar Bharat: Technology to lead the way

The Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative is based on five pillars i.e. Economy, Vibrant demography,  Infrastructure, Demand, and Technology-driven system. But the onus of turning the plans into a successful reality lies with technology. In the Atmanirbhar Bharat package announced by the government focused on strengthening the country’s infrastructure to take it next to China and US as global superpowers. The journey for India towards claiming its rightful place in the world order will certainly be powered by technology.

Let us discuss India’s Tech powerhouse can help realise the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat even during the times of COVID-19: –

  • E-Learning: – Development of e-Learning solutions is one of the most important areas in which India’s tech powerhouse can help. The schools and colleges across the country are closed for the last several months and might not reopen for several months. In such a situation, the onus of ensuring continued education for all students comes to modern technology. Various e-Learning solutions have been developed in the last few months to help the students continue their education, including mobile apps, online platforms, and software solutions. By empowering students with knowledge and wisdom, e-Learning has shown a new and effective way of ensuring education for all. E-learning even came up with the Online government exams preparation substituting Offline Institutes classes with Live classes and Video Lectures online brands like Adda247 and so many others introduced govt. exam preparation with the help of elearning.
  • Healthcare: – Individuals in the remote corners of the country have always been deprived of quality medical care. People have to travel several hours to reach the nearest hospital for the treatment. But the Indian Tech Industry is working towards ensuring quality health care for all through remote healthcare. Doctors and medical professionals can connect with the patients and administer treatment through tech tools like phone calls, video calls, and remote health monitoring.
  • Artificial Intelligence: – Artificial Intelligence is one of the fastest developing fields in modern-day technology. Artificial Intelligence finds applications in almost all sectors of the economy, including education, finance, healthcare etc. While Indian tech companies are working out solutions based on Artificial Intelligence, but they must invest more time and resources in this technology to help India realise the dream of becoming a global superpower.
  • Finance: – The Indian finance sector has always embraced technology to improve its offerings. The benefit of this approach had not been realised until the COVID-19 crisis forced everyone to restrict their visits to the banks. Mobile banking apps and internet banking helped people manage their finances efficiently during these times. In the days to come, it is expected from Indian tech powerhouse to create more innovative solutions to take banking and finance facilities to even the remotest corners.

There is no doubt that the future of modern India has to be technology-driven. So, Indian Tech Industry needs to put-in additional efforts to realise the dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
